2000 NJSIAA Fencing Tournament

Ramapo wins boys title; Columbia four-peats as girls champions

Ramapo claimed its 21st NJSIAA boys fencing team title while Columbia won all three weapons to four-peat as the girls champions at Voorhees High School in Glen Gardner. Ramapo (70-29), which went 12-0 during the regular season, edged runnerup Millburn (67-32) as the sabre team went 28-5 with Howard Huang on the "A" strip leading the way with a 10-1 record.

2000 NJSIAA FENCING TOURNAMENT

Millburn wins boys title; Columbia three-peats as girls champions

Columbia three-peated in the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association girls fencing team championships contested at Voorhees High School in Glen Gardner on March 4, 2000. Millburn won its second boys title in three years.
Columbia accumulated 58 victories to win the overall team title by 11 victories over runnerup Pompton Lakes. The Cougars from Essex County finished first in the foil competition with a team of Maggie Jordan (8-3), Jenny Redmore (8-3), Christine Kaneshige (7-4) and Nine Okoro (8-3). In the epee, the team of Angnemarie LeDonne (9-2), Wednesday Valestin (10-1) and Amanda Boksay (8-3) was runnerup to Pompton Lakes squad of Kim Bush (9-2), Jeanne Brown (9-2) and Sevilay Baycora (10-1).
Millburn posted 79 wins while Montclair Kimberley finished in second place with 71 victories. The Millers won the epee competition with a team of Austin Kilgore (8-3), Ashwin Jacob (10-1) and Andrew Bazlievich (11-0). The Millers were third in the foil with a squad of Matt Caselton (8-3), Phil Sherrill (8-3) and Niluka Abeywardene (8-3) and placed second in the sabre with a lineup of Josh Younger (8-3), Mac Reback (8-3) and James Fischkoff (10-1).
MKA won the foil competition with the team of Jay Tobia (9-2), Bryan Bishe (9-2) and Bryan Wilmer (92) as well as the sabre event with a lineup of Jared DeMatties (10-1), Jesse Branson (11-0) and Mike Fortunato (8-3).
